"I HIGHLY recommend Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes as a means of discussing and encouraging empathy. I used this packet in a 3rd-8th grade one-room school, with differentiated expectations and organization. The 8th graders had read the book in 6th grade, but ALL of the students enjoyed the packet and said they got more from the book after having to analyze it so thoroughly.

I worked with my lowest group of 4 students (3rd through 6th) page by page. My middle group was a VERY bright 3rd grader, two 5th graders, and a 7th grader who reads at 4th grade level. They worked as a group. The highest group was all 7th and 8th grade, and they were allowed to go at their own pace, independently." -- BONNIE T.
